What ashame... this pub is very local for Ian and myself, used to be a bit of a bikers pub. We came to see you play back in december (you prob won't remember us)... Don't think I'll bother venturing there again though if they're just having single artists on!

a shame, indeed, shell! several pubs round here have done exactly that - the sandknockers springs immediately to mind? can hardly bear to drive past that place now, knowing the bands they've had on there in the past -the likes of riff raff, mother's ruin, crazy train. four candles etc,- and now see a sign that says "elvis impersonator" or "female artiste" (which, i'm sorry to say, usually involves some young girl with a music box behind her who thinks that "tit's and bum and pelvic thrusts" makes for a good singer?? - not that i have any objection to "tit's and bum and pelvic thrusts, in the right context- just not masquerading as "singing talent"!!)

The SANDKNOCKERS or wotever it is called now has gone one better with a CLOSED sign now ..........was a great venue for bands and A.T.
The REED in Rochdale town center is starting up bands (dont know if it'll be student bands though !!
Rochdale seems pretty dead for live music now ....a few years back we cud play every night in Rochdale (and did alot of the time) sometimes we did 2 gigs a nite on wensnites doing The Gale or Stubbley hall and then down to gale in the valley Deeplish and do another till 3am+ .... eeeeh those were the days !!!!

would you believe "spring hill tavern"?? sheeesh! talk about "ideas above your station"??? and don't forget whitworth road pubs-the "tanners" was an excellent venue (was where you and i first exchanged riffs -a couple of months ago?? ;-)) ). (is some sort of social work offices now!! errr-is there a connection there?) discounting the waggon (they can't seem to be able to make their mind up?) the nearest good venue now is shaw?? i know there's the cask, but sunday nights are "Out" for a lot of people cause of work. indeed, bro- those were the days!! sigh!!!

The Plough has always had problems. It's bloody well cursed, like Kearsley. We just gave up on taking bookings there. I heard that the woman who plays Liz MacDonald from Coronation St owned it at one point.

i think what baffles me is this-these venues get a good saturday night band night going (whatever the genre), establish a solid audience of music fans who go in, behave themselves, try to drink the place dry and generally, have a happy time. then somebody decides to change this-put on "karaoke or whatever (no, not you, paul!!) and then, within weeks, the pub is shutting down!!! go figure!! :-(
