what is the best way of resoving feedback problems if the soundguy doesn't rescue you?

I was at a gig last night where there was awful feedback and just wondred how other folks get round it? I offered to go get my condensor mic (I'm a really quiet singer so a nightmare for soundguys) if that would help but the guy didn't want to use it. I wasn't using my trusty Ibanez electro-acoustic on night though so perhaps that didn't help matters.

"if the soundguy doesn't rescue you" ?????? If it's an in-house PA then surely that's his job?
However if it's your gear then Behringer do a range of products commonly known as feedback destroyers which go between the mics and mixer or in the effects loop. They pick up the offending frequencies and automatically filter them out of the mix. Look on HarmonyCentral.com for reviews and stuff.

Good Luck

the sound did get a bit better after a few songs but there was feedback through the whole set. Just wondered if there is anything I could do to make life easier for soundguys when it is an in house PA. For my own PA I have a behringer mixing desk which has feedback detection system.

Hi emma

We use a Behringer desk which has feedback detection but it will only show you the frequency that is causing the feedback, you should then adjust the eq band (usually cutting the slider) to eliminate the feedback.Feedback destroyers will do this for you but no destroyer will work like this if some of the basic rules of speaker / monitor/ mic placement are not followed.

good Luck

Feedback is almost always because of the 1k,4k and 8k on the sliders on the eq turn them down until it stops and then increase to gain ound quality just below feedback possibility you are too loud.
Was you using monitors?

at that gig there was monitors used but when I set up my own gear I don't use monitors just two speakers and the mixing desk

I don't get feedback when I use my own gear but when I play venues where there is a in house PA most times there is a bit of feedback

Too loud ask them to turn down slightly or get him to take out the 1k/ 4k levels on eq it should work ..the sound man should know what he is doing though.
