Beach Boys-Good Vibrations. Can't remember why, maybe it was a break from the pap that occupied the charts at the time. That said I still think a great number.

Are You Experienced- Jimi Hendrix experience. Totally changed my view of music forever

Julie Do Ya Love Me by the White Plains..........I'm not proud of it. It took me ages to save my nine and elevenpence (ooh 911, spooky) and when the time came the shop didn't have the one I wanted so I bought the one with the nice label.

First album Pinups by Bowie. Top guitar by Mick Ronson, sadly missed.

I was brought up on classical music, top of the pops was never on in our house. Then the music lesson at school had a 'bring an album from home lesson' someone brought Rush A Farewell To Kings, I bought it shortly after, that was my first album. I didn't know there was music like that out there. I was a punk for a few years after that but that album has stayed with me and am still a Rush fan.

Slayer- Same for me cept I was bought up in a house that was Big Band ( Ellington/Basie etc) only. The ole man stopped giving me drum lessons when he found a copy of melody maker under me bed. Ha! Rolling Stones? five minute wonders son, don't waste your time.

was a foregone conclusion as to where my musical direction would be heading? have a sister seven years older than me-dated a "rocker" from aged fifteen (now my brother in law). her collection had all the r'n'r greats-chuck berry, little richard, gerry lee, early elvis etc plus some great blues stuff-john lee, howlin' wolf, b.b. king and co. i got them blasted through my bedroom wall every friday and saturday nght as she was getting ready to out. plus he rode a thumping great bsa 500-what else was i going to be?? :-)))
blues slickers-your first single, also, could qualify as a good cover? i believe john lee h got (eventually) royalties for those riffs?? :-))

Viking- Agreed on 'Spirit' Rod from Threefold has been wanting to cover it for ages.Dr and the Medics version to date has to be the best cover to date.

# Posted by viking - 02/06/2008, 21:28 (GMT)
keef-just going "off track" slightly-do you remember the "dance" we used to do to "Spirit"? was an excellent opportunity for some "accidental" contact!! :-)) and yes-i reckon dr and medics actually better than original!! ;-)

# Posted by Keef - 02/06/2008, 21:34 (GMT)
Not guilty your honour, I never toughed the girl -- honest !!!!

if I say yes I just know rod is gonna come back with the Dinasoar jokes. What the hell -yep and didn't we have some wierd dance stuff going on in those dark and distant days

# Posted by Keef - 02/06/2008, 21:36 (GMT)
Err I meant TOUCHED !! Never knew whether to F em or fight em in my little village

# Posted by viking - 02/06/2008, 21:42 (GMT)
heh heh!! was trying to tell slayer about it a while back-he looked at me as if i'd finally lost ALL my marbles!! you just had to be there at the time to understand?? :-))
weird indeed!! fortunately i learnt how to "headbang" quite early, and so could exempt myself from most of those goings on, on the grounds of insanity!! :-)

# Posted by Threefold - 03/06/2008, 10:56 (GMT)
I thought you just clubbed them in your days Keef and them just dragged them lol ?

# Posted by After Hours Blues Band - 03/06/2008, 18:38 (GMT)
First single I ever bought was The Band of The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards playing Amazing Grace. But it was for me dads birthday, honest guv! Released on RCA Victor label in 1972. (Some real saddo has put it on You Tube, but it is just an image of the single going around on the turntable! Having 3 elder sisters I didn't buy many singles, house was full of Elvis, Beatles and Stones stuff, plus the odd Searchers single. First Album I think was Moody Blues, Days of Future Passed. Classic.

# Posted by viking - 05/06/2008, 18:01 (GMT)
don't know if this counts, keef? my big sister gave me her LP of buddy holly and the crickets on my 13th birthday. :-))
(errrrrrm-is the Talbot doing a "blogjack" there?? :-)) )

# Posted by Keef - 06/06/2008, 13:54 (GMT)
Viking: should we start a thread- I'm older than you/time/the universe etc HaHa.
Though it doesn't count as a single, the very first bit of vinyl given to me was Eric Delaney's drum tuition with my first kit ( Delaneys kat kit ( 8" snare/7" crash)) when I was 11 ( used it to scare pterodactyls of the garden- just in case you was wondering Viking/rod)
Talbot realised that if you blogjack the most popular thread it will give them a bigger audience. C'mon Michelle spill the beans what was your first?

# Posted by viking - 06/06/2008, 15:12 (GMT)
keef!! lmao!! worth a thought?? specially when you think i used my first kit (premier four set) to warn of invading saxons!!!! heh heh!!! (although we might have the blog to ourselves??)
talbot/michelle's first?? has to be "let's spend the night together", by the stones!! (and NO!! i am NOT being rude there-think about it!!) :-)))))
