JUST A QUESTION.............

The question of how much to charge for gigs has been troubling us alot just lately. The BC are pretty spread out in where they live at the mo and consequently sometimes some members have quite a distance to travel where as for others the venue is just down the road! - working out how much to charge is getting harder and harder and getting the venues to pay it, in some cases is even more difficult! How do you all work out how much to charge? and how does it go down with the venues?

Each band member should be properly recompensed for their work plus travel. The days of going out for less than £200 in a semi pro band appear to be about the year 2000.

Hope that helps.

Thanx Kerbcrawlers, thats about what we charge for most gigs anyway so we're either just about right or cheap - depending which way you look at it!

P.S - it does amaze me though sometimes just how many venues there are out there that want a band for free! or for free drinks! - unfortunately we can't use free beer as fuel to get us there and some of the band could be earning instead of gigging!

Its all about mutual respect and understanding.

The venue needs to make a bob or two as do the bands.

It is a symbiosis thing ( whoa heavy stuff) Each and every band on here will claim (and rightfully so) that they are the best and will hopefully promote themselves and the gigs to the full. The venue, in order to get the maximum numbers thro the door should be working to promote the Venue. Sometimes thats a bit more than sticking a couple of posters up in the pub.
Getting some posters in local shops and a mention in the local paper
(gig guide sections etc) can get out to a wider audience.
Working together is the way to go.
After all is said done and the beer taps are dry, We need each other to make live music work.

Hey DB, I used to resemble that remark !!

Some might argue I still do

never undersell yourself, but be honest and realistic about your abilities. In this business a bad act gets noticed a load quicker than a class one
