WANT TO FORM A CLASSIC ROCK COVERS BAND?

I am think, ing about putting a classic rock covers band together again to do the odd gig. Would probably be restricted to Fri and Sun nights as all my satturdays are taken up with the function band Im in.

I'm not bothered whether I play bass or lead, either is good for me as long as its fun. I dont want to do more than a couple of gigs a month really. So are there any guitarists, bass players and drummers out there and interested in doing something. I already have a singer who can do the high notes, I also have a large transit van, a 6K pa rig and big lighting rig.

Either email me: ian@runciman.co.uk or bell me on 07979 835 141

I am based in Bury and in my mid 40s by the way.
Favourite stuff is
AC/DC
UFO
Rainbow
Purple
Sabbath
Maiden
etc etc

Riiiiight, so in three to four years time I must remember to move Metallica, Exodus and Venom to the Classic Rock folder. Not sure if Ulrich, Gary Holt and Kronos would be very happy about it though... :-)

Classic Rock Hmmmm rather like prog its definition is as varied as the whole rock genre.
So what really defines Classic Rock in your opinion ?
Certainly cannot be based on years in the industry (or can it).

Had enough of the 'suit' already Ian!!!
Not that it bothers me but like with cars they become classic cars after 25 years(or did i just dream that ??) so thats bands from 1983 on .............

I think everyones own definition of classic rock will depend on what music they like. I personally am into stuff like
Whitesnake, Purple, Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Metallica, Rainbow etc etc. Basically 70s and eighties heavy rock music

However, lots of people consider The Jam, The Police and a lot of new wave stuff to be classic rock. Personally I would class it as classic punk and classic pop rock, but then again thats only my opinion.
I also don't consider any modern band to be classic rock because to me the term defines music from the past, just as classic literature would define Virgina Wolf and the like rather than modern day authors. I think modern rock of the last say 10 years or so can still be classed under the original genre desriptions such as heavy rock, prog rock, metal etc etc.

Everyone likes different things thank God. I myself don't really like any modern rock music, to me the majority of it sounds either like pop rock or rehashed punk. But then again I'm and old codger :) so thats my perogative. However, I dare say there are bands out there making great music without a doubt

Its still the same chords, riffs and cliched sexual innuendo lyrics ..whatever year it came from .....Marshall ,les paul etc ....+ its too early in the morning for a debate ....int it ..eh!!!
Our jam @White lion has been called off for now (think she wants to run her ex husbands pub to bankruptcy)

I prefer "Hard Rock", regardless when it was made. Say Airbourne nowadays and Rainbow back in the day; both are Hard Rock man. Then add Maiden back in 1980 and today's Children Of Bodom; well, still Heavy Metal! The term classic goes pretty much against what Rock in general stands for. It ain't about age but spirit.

for me-"rock classics" works better? as ian and others say, the music transcends the "25" year yardstick - indeed, with the likes of ac/dc ("thunderstruck"/"heatseeker"?), Maiden ("number of the beast")plus many others, laying down damn good rock tracks consistently over the last few years, the phrase "rock will never die" is , in my view, being substantiated time and time again.
it seems to me it's a good indication it doesn't age (whatever the "sub category" )that bands are playing those tracks now to an apreciative audience of young people too, as well as us old 'uns?

classic rock..hard rock...prog rock...soft rock...pigeon holes are for pigeons.......a classic piece of music will always be popular ie Beach boys Good Vibrations not rock not pop not even rock and roll but it moves people and it gets remembered thats a "classic" even Rolf Harris has a classic song "two little boys" liked by alot ,hated by alot, "classics are in the ears of the beholder" but some people are deaf.

Never heard of Beach Boys......:-P, pigeons,....mmmmm.....just remembered I didn't get any breakfast......

Not really bothered what anyone else wants to call it! For me it's classic and its rock so Classic Rock fits the bill as far as I'm concerned. And in the states it's all Rock n roll

a big "hell yeah!" to that ian-best of luck in your quest for a new band. given your provenance it's something to anticipate (from a fan's point of view).

I like Seaside rock myself, preferably brown and stripey and quite minty, It can be a hard rock and since it's been around for over a hundred years it's definitely a classic rock. I saw some rock at the seaside shaped like my genitals recently I suppose this would be cock rock...and now to define Jazz, let’s start with Jazz mags...
