Those Sneaky Blue Slickers are appearing at The Oddfellows in Eccles this Sunday, Groucho hasn't done a Sunday gig Since The Railway in Royton in 1982 when he blew not just every fuse in the building but in the vacinity, Traffic lights, street lights, pub lights and also sadly the beer pumps...all ceased to work, he took it to be a warning from some "Higher Authority" but has since learned it was lousy wiring as there is no "Higher Authority" just Great British electricity (which recently seems to pong a bit of Garlic and Snails), IF you can pull yourself away from whatever bilge the TV is pumping out on a Sunday evening these days and find your way to The Oddfellow Arms you will be rewarded with a blues rock version of "Last of the summer blues" featuring Greasy,Slinger,Grouch,BBJ and our very own Compo on drums...Lord Barrington Le Thump! In this weeks adventure the old gents go to Eccles and try to get a Kite to fly underwater but Greasy's plan goes tragically wrong when Nora "Sepp" Blatty kills three people with a machete and eats thier brains...laughter and ad hoc surgery! Can it get any better? Waiter! More Monkfish see voo play?!

Ah yes Sunday gigs - everyones normally either cabbaging in front of the telly after a Sunday lunchtime session and a burnt dried up Sunday roast (that the Mrs put in the oven to keep warm 2 hours before) or you're stupifying in some drug induced haze!

I remember doing 2 gigs one Sunday, The Old Gloveworks in Glossop at teatime and then Moston Conservative Club (I think) in the evening - which had 2 flights of stairs! Absolutely knackered come midnight! Happy daze!!

Anyway!! Really looking forward to blowing the dust off the old Marshall after 3 week break for hols. Also looking forward to introducing the new Gibson! Hopefully this one won't play out of tune like all my others guitars!!!!!

We might play a few forgotten favourites that we've overlooked at the last couple of gigs, Rocking in Free World, Shooting Star!

Not Arff Pop Pickers.

Mmmm...good monkfish...Shootin' star eh? New Gibson eh? Playing in tune eh? Not bloody likely! Ok I'll sing Shooting star but you can sing Rocking in the free world and I'll play guitar...

I'll bring my kazoo (subject to it being in tune).

I've got a red one!

In that case I'd best bring a doctor.

They have a Kazoo Doctor? Unbeleivable, ruddy typical of this country to train a bloke to fix plastic and tracing paper but they can't find a cure for Cliff Richards...sad innit?

Hey lads we were at the Railway that night, are you sure it was Sunday???? they normally had bands on every Thurs in them days. (oh happy days). They finished up fitting one of them sound cut off thingys, which really pissed the bands off, and the fans weren't too pleased either.

Yup I played there a few times on the Thursday and this was the only Sunday we were asked to do I think it was a bank holiday, we played in the afternoon then in the evening and we were halfway through the second evening set and Vummm....total darkness inside and out...I offered to drink whiskey but the tills wouldn't work either!

Awe well must have been another band that blew the fuses when we were in. Used to be a good venue yesrs ago but it died a death in the mid to late 90s. Sure we've seen you play there though

Never had a problem with any of those tunes Slinger, with so little time there are thousands of songs I'd sing with the Slickers, you just have to do what you can and hope there's enough time left for you to get them all in, I love being in a band I can't imagine my time on earth has been wasted if I could just get through half of 'em and in such good company too I'm a lucky, lucky human being.
See you on Sunday at the Oddfellows mate, lets have some fun.

yes mate looking forward to it and i cant wait to get these zeppelin tunes in the set either, oh by the way have you heard much of the queen and paul rodgers album.

No mate is it any good? Talented bunch but the last album felt like too much of a compromise of style over content for me but then I'm more of a punter these days than a critic, I'll give it a listen and reserve judgement...

Just listened to it before its growing on me you can tell Rodgers has had a big say in it and they recently added the stealer in the set on the current european tour, great riff.Yep Rockin in the free world will do for me cracking song one of neil youngs best apart from like a hurricane which i think features his best solo.

# Posted by The Blue Slickers - 09/10/2008, 23:48 (GMT)
Everytime I hear "Like a Hurricane" I end up humming "Ruby Tuesday" by the Rolling Stones...is it just me?

I guess it's just me then...
