PA CLARITY ?

Is there anybody out there who can offer advice on getting the best clarity out of Mackies 450s ( powered speakers)
Mine seem to be very much on the bass side and I find my vocals don't always cut through. When i try to get them to cut through, it sounds as if there's too much treble on . I used to have passive speakers with a McGregor mixer amp and the clarity was second to none.
My current peavey 10 mixer is a little confusing with all the added extras of equalization and efx. Also I find I have to turn up the mackie speakers to get any real volume out of them. Is this normal ? Advice needed please.

only just seen this...have replied to your message. Try just plugging an ipod direct into the speaker...you'll be able to tell straight away if the horns have blown. If it sounds ok, problem is with your mixer...
Mackies are designed to sound good with very very little extra eq, maybe just a notch on the treble, but no more. The volume should never ever need to be more than 12 oclock....I run mine at 5 to and the band thinks I'm too loud for them (and they're a loud band as you saw LOL)
You bought them new didn't you as a clearance line? Could be the speakers had been returned and the shop has resold them. Mackie support is excellent though, so if you have a problem you should be ok....they have a 2 year warranty. Try the Mackie support forum on their site...its monitored by Mackie engineers, so you should get some reply promptly.
Left you a message anyway, so you can ring me if you want.
Could just be a fault in the mixer (is that new)..are you assigning the signal to the correct busses?
